My husband and I are in the process of adopting our first child from Ethiopia. My husband is an awesome man, whom I love with all my heart. We’ve been married for almost two years. God has directed us to adopt from Ethiopia.

Why Ethiopia

  • 4.6 MILLION ORPHANS
  • 1 in 6 will die before age one
  • 1 in 10 will die before age five
  • 60% of children growth is stunted
  • 50% will never attend school
  • Literacy rate is 39%
  • Doctor to child ratio is 1 to 24,000
  • Life expectancy is 49 years
  • Lack of clean water
  • Insuffient government funding

Summer 2007 Selected adoption agency

Summer 2007 Informed of two-year marriage requirement

May 25 2008 Requested adoption application - $300

August 11 2008 Submitted petition to adopt CIS - $830

August 30 2008 Purchased humanitarian aid - $200

September 2 2008 Local background checks - $30

September 8 2008 FBI finger print & clearance - $60

September 16 2008 Submitted adoption application - $2100

September 27 2008 Dossier service - $691

October 10 2008 Home Study - $1500

October 16 2008 Received CIS appointment date

October 27 2008 CIS finger print appointment

November 25 2008 Agency approval to adopt-$3750

December 12 2008 CIS approval to adopt

December 18 2008 Wait list!!!

Fed Ex & postage fees - $305

Birth Certificates & Marriage License - $97

September 9 2009 Referral - $7400

November 30 2009 Court date!!!

Airline Tickets -$1998 per adult $200 child 1 way

Travel Items/Supplies - $230.00

December 18 2009 GOTCHA DAY

Sheraton 2 Rooms - 5 nights $780 + 90,000 starwood points

Bejoe Guest House 2 nights - $170
